It is a very strange morning. Pancake Land is up. Need I say more?
The “They” say that when a person starts to learn to cook, one of the first thing that they do to improve their food is to buy higher quality ingredients. I did this last night. I found, at Wal-Mart of course, Italian Arborio rice and I got it. What sold it to me was the fact that printed on the side of the package were the words “Perfect For Risotto”. Normally I just use the average run-of-the-mill white rice, so I decided to try the actual Italian rice that was imported from Italy to make my Italian rice dish.
The results are still not totally in on whether or not it was better. Pancake Land doesn’t not think that it was double the cost better. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that. When the “quality” of something increases, so does the price. We all know this. So, the normal white rice I use is about 88¢ for a 16oz. bag and the Italian Arborio rice is $1.72 for a 12oz. bag. This means that in order to make enough risotto to feed Pancake Land last night and today, I needed two bags of Arborio. One bag would not have made a big enough batch. The 16oz. white rice barely makes enough.
We shall see if the next day leftover test lands the Arborio rice the win or not. I’ll keep you posted.
Well, I need to go work on my homework. I also need to work on my “cookbook-notebook”. I just pulled it from the shelf and noticed that the stitching that holds the paper in is coming unstitched. Guess I’ll have to make a new cover and sew it by hand. Poor me having to personalize my personal book of recipes on a dreary Saturday. Until next little workers: Happy cooking. Plus tôt. ~SC
