Oh, Wait, I Remember Now What I Was Supposed To Do!

I was supposed to make some sort of point or at least have a little bit of closure in yesterday’s post. Sorry. I forgot.

The point, if I actually had one, was that food is good stuff. I like food. It tastes good. And it means a lot to me. It is my sanctuary. That is probably the only thing that Julie Powell have in common. I, for one, love Queens. Haven’t you ever seen Coming to America?

Pancake Land and I finally watched Julie & Julia last night. It was very inspiring. I want more than ever to see Julia Child’s kitchen in D.C. now. I like that they actually portrayed Irma Rombauer in the movie. They got the old lady from Doc Hollywood to play her. Awesome. What?! Can’t I reference ridiculous movies in my posts? I thought that’s why you came here everyday.

I went to bed thinking of food, dreamt about food, and woke up thinking about food. Not in a “I’m hungry.” kinda way either. In a dreamy romantic kind of way. Like I have a high school crush on food kind of thing. Hence the angsty punk rock yesterday.

Since I am so friggin’ inspired today, I have decided to help Teacher Sis wow her peers at school by working on Petits Fours with her. She and I have never made them before. We both have vague memories of Giselle Clements making them, but I had to consult Irma to get a little info on how the Hell to make them. If either of us had a copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, hint hint, our task might have been a little easier.

For those of you who are thinking “What the Hell is a Petits Fours?” left me essplain. A Petits Fours is a little tiny cake. Usually ranging from a one inch (2.54cm) cube to about 2 inch by 2 inch by 1 inch (5.08cm x 5.08cm x 2.54cm) cake. There are traditionally iced with a simple fondant, not the kind purchased at Michael’s, and usually decorated with a little design or flower or something. Think Zebra cakes.

Mmm… Zebra cakes.

So, that’s what I’m going to be up to today. I’ll let you know how they turn out.

I was digging through my photo folder here on my lappie and found the Lampshade series that Dave and I did a long time ago. I think that I will start a gallery for them. You should check it out. I should have it up shortly. Hopefully, he and I will be doing a second round of Lampshades in the near future. Ojeda the Curve wants to collaborate with us on it, so it should make for a good time. We shall see.

Well, Ima go do nothing for a little bit before resubmerging into the pastry world. More soon. ~SC
