… And That Was How I Lost My Boner.

First off this morning, the new article is up on the City Wire. You can read it here.

Anyways, I had to turn the volume down a little on this one. I had said something about getting a culinary boner from eating at this restaurant and my editor thought boner was a little too descriptive. To his credit he was going to allow me to use the term erection, but culinary erection just didn’t carry the same weight. I can’t complain too much. They pay me to eat food and write about it. They’ve got a business to run and they don’t want me scaring off readers with my language. That’s cool. I can respect that. This is just challenging me to find new and subtle ways to say the things I want to say. Mwhaha…

On a similar note, my editor asked me to take a week off this month. When the red flags went up in my head, I asked him why and he said it was because my pay is based on four articles a month and April has five weeks in it. He said I could take a week off or write an article free of charge. I opted for the week off. Not that I wouldn’t give them an article for free, but I have been slacking at the eating out lately and my article cupboard is rather bare. So, with that said, no article next week.

Yesterday, I spent the day staring at a monitor and typing addresses into a database. Fun times. Needless to say, I had a headache all day. I also had a moment of weakness where I bought 12 issues of American Photo magazine. You see, what had happened was, last year White Chocolate referred me to this thing called My Points. By signing up for it, you are pretty much asking for spam email. How it works is this: they send you “deals”, you click on the link in the email, and earn points. You also earn points by shopping online, but you don’t have to. All you have to do is click on links in your email. And they send you a lot of email. The cool part about being bombarded by spam is that these points you earn are redeemable for stuff you want. Gift cards galore! Amazon, Target, iTunes, Barnes and Noble, Banana Republic, you name it.

Anyway, this “deal” came in about magazines and they offered like a 250 point bonus for subscribing to a magazine, plus 20 points per dollar I spent, plus a $5 off coupon. I ended up getting a 2 year subscription for like $16 or some such craziness. That’s not bad considering that is the amount you would pay for three issues at the store. My plan is to save up my points and buy iTunes gift cards. I can use them to buy the audiobooks that now are they soundtrack to my day.

I would opt for the file sharing route to obtain my audiobooks, but the glory days of Audiogalaxy are long past and between the risk of being incarcerated for “pirating” and the risk of downloading a crappy copy (infinitely worse than the risk of incarceration) it doesn’t seem worth it to try and download them. With the earned gift cards, I still get my mp3s for free and they are guaranteed to be high quality. Sure it takes longer, but it is worth it in the end.

If any of you are interested in the My Points thing, let me know. I will invite you. That’s the kicker, invites only. Such is the price you pay for free stuff.

Anywho, it’s Friday and that means lunch with Word to Me. But, before I can eat the lunchtime tacos, I must work. Time to get that party started. More soon. ~SC
