One Of One, Six Dozen Of The Other.

The Humane Society called Pancake Land on Thursday and left her a message telling her that we need to schedule a time this coming week for the kittens’s spaying/neutering. P.L. called them on Friday and our appointment is on Tuesday. That’s when our babies leave us. She is a whole lot of upset right now. She just sort of walks around holding individual kittens and muttering phrases like “They’re trying to take my babies away from me.” Despite her maternal instincts and the fact that she wants to keep all four kittens, she is sticking to our original plan. The original plan was that we would adopt any/all of the kittens if they could not be adopted out and were going to be euthanized. This way we would not pick our favorite, like we could pick just one anyway, and adopt them while one of their siblings gets killed for being unadoptable. By doing things this way we give all of the kittens a fair shot at coming back to live with us. “Be assholes.” I keep telling them. They seem to understand this as if it were an ingrained cat instinct.

To try and console Pancake Land, and in order to ensure that it is paid for by her birthday, and for fun, I went ahead and bought her a camera. I figured that it was a good time to buy it because this is our last weekend with the kittens and it would be a nice distraction. She has made some talk of creating a photo-a-day web page, but is still on the fence about whether she wants me talking about it in front of God and everybody. She’s a little shy about the things she makes. Of course, she doesn’t listen to me when I say the stuff she makes is kick ass.

“You have to say that.” she says.

“No I don’t.” I say.

“If you ever want to touch me again, you do.”

“Dammit. That’s just not right.”

I am very proud of her for getting really into learning to use the camera. She has been watching tutorial videos and reading a lot of forums about tips and tricks for this camera. I have to say, this camera is pretty badass. Not only does it take really crisp photos, but it will shoot HD video. So nice. I haven’t figured that part out yet. For some reason, probably the small memory card, it will only shoot five second videos. I’m working on it.

On a slightly different note, I got my garden put together yesterday. I got a whole crap load of lava rock out of the flower bed, removed most of the shoddy red brick wall, put in new red brick edging, added a bunch of organic garden soil, tilled it, and planted my veggies. In the front bed I’ve got tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, and two plants that I have yet to identify. In the side bed I’ve got red and white onions, asparagus, cantaloupe, and rhubarb. No peppers, eggplant, or shallots. Well, yet. Give it time.

I got a lot accomplished yesterday, so today is pretty open for doing whatever. I do need to start working on this week’s article, but other than that, nothing. Maybe I’ll take a shower. And do a little reading. And play with the new camera. And snuggle with my sweet lady. This day is sounding better and better by the minute.

Well, cleanliness is next to Godliness, so it is time for me to go and have a religious experience. More soon. ~SC
