Sometimes They Honk Like Little Geese.

So, we missed the mail carrier yesterday. And by missing them, we did not sign for my cookbooks. And by not signing for my cookbooks, we now have to go to the post office and get them. Pancake Land is supposed to do this for me today. Either before or after she turns back into a blond.

I am kinda sleepy this morning, so finding my big boy words is a little tricky. Hence that last paragraph.

Over the course of the last few days Pancake Land and I watched both The Hurt Locker and Precious and we came to a most interesting conclusion: they are roughly the same movie. Both are just a collection of artistically shot snippets of terribly disturbing scenes. One is focused on sexual/physical/psychological abuse and one is focused on blowing things up or rather stopping things from blowing up. Both end with the main characters accepting their true qualities and finding happiness and, strangely enough, finding happiness means abandoning at least part of your family. Awesome. I think that I speak for Pancake Land as well, when I say that they were okay. We didn’t hate them, but we not going rush right and buy them either. I know I will probably never hunt out either of those to watch again. I can’t imagine a world where I would be sitting around thinking to myself:

“Man you know what I really need right now? I need to watch a couple of hours of really fucked up stuff happening to some person who has been tricked into thinking they deserve it. Maybe I’ll just swing over to the Blockbuster and pick up Hurt Locker and Precious. Note to self: Pick up some extra buttery popcorn.”

Not really seeing that happening ever. On a much brighter and most enjoyable note, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the director of Amelie and The City of Lost Children,  has made a new film called MicMacs. Here’s the trailer:

It looks awesome. I am most excited.

Today, Le Duke is doing a demonstration at the University, so I need to go help him get ready. Lots to pack up and haul to the school. More soon. ~SC
