Oh, House, You’re So Random.

Not that House. The other one. The Random House. The one that owns Bantam publishing. The publisher who releases Tom Robbins books. The author who I wrote a letter to, via his publisher, requesting permission to use a poem in my bookmaking class. Do you remember all of this, yet?

Well, I got a reply yesterday. It turns out that Tom Robbins probably never saw my letter. The response I got was very form letter-ish. It was even signed by the computer’s printer. It was kind of disappointing. But, alas, I still got permission to use the requested haiku in my “dissertation”. I don’t know what part of “bookmaking project” translated to “dissertation” but in the publishing world, I guess the words are interchangeable. Sweet. Anyways, here’s the letter:

That was pretty much the high point of my day yesterday. I worked almost all day in the pottery studio making tiles. Big stupid tiles. Unfortunately, since that was all that happened yesterday, I don’t have much more to tell you.

Um… I ordered books 4-7 from the Harry Potter series yesterday. I think I should have the whole set by later this week.

Um… we had chicken fried steak for dinner. With mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. It was delicious. I think that that is my “Death Row” meal. Anthony Bourdain is always asking people what their last meal would be if they were on Death Row. That would be mine.

I’m reaching here. Screw it. I’m off to school. More soon. ~SC
