Who Can Take a Rainbow?

Wrap it in a sigh, soak it in the sun, and make a groovy lemon pie? The Candyman can.

Yesterday, as I stepped into the printing room at Shooting Star Press, my heart lightened, my worries melted away, and I found the bathroom so as to empty my bladder. I felt like a kid in a candy shop.

In the course of about 5 hours, and for less than $100, I more than doubled my current inventory of type and cuts/ornaments. It was a very good day. This photos fails to grasp the enormity of the score, but you’ll get an idea:

Chelty

That is showing one box and about 1/3 of 2 other boxes. Of the 6 boxes I got. And the 4 type cases I got. And the slug cutter. And the type-high gauge. And the loot from Shooting Star. And the brisket sandwich. And the good conversation and inspiration.

While I was digging through the mountain of cuts and ornaments, the Shooting Star himself was busy at the linotype making something. Turns out, that something was a handful of presents for me…

Linotype

That’s 11 lines of my press’s name and 4 super long arrows. Why the arrows? Why not?

And you also get a small glimpse at the cuts I got. Yes, that says “Drugs”. Yes, that’s an operation in progress. Yes, those are teeth. Yes, all of them are awesome.

So, as you can imagine, I’ll be elbow deep in dealing with this stuff today and the rest of the week. Sorting, cleaning, proofing, and putting away. I’ll be lucky to get it done this week. This is probably going to be a project that lasts a few weeks.

That’ll begin a little bit today. Mostly, today will be housework. And stories. Game of Thrones returns tonight…

Have a wonderful remainder of you weekend.

See ya’ tomorrow.

More soon. ~SC
