And his troubles with the Texture Police.
Yesterday was another day of shit kicking my list in the face.
Granted, after workout I got into a pretty grumpy mood. I just felt down in the dumps. I hated everyone. I was exhausted.
Around 11am I realized I didn’t have my morning coffee.
I was much better after that.
I headed to Hobby Lobby to hunt for “textures”. Being a potter for 11 years made me think of things in three dimensions. How an object fits into space. But now I’m working in 2D. Ink(1D) and paper (the other D).
Sandragraphs are a whole other D.
It’s like having to think in 3 dimensions in a 2 dimensional world. So much of what we use to make arts and crafts is the other way around. 2 dimensional objects designed for a 3 dimensional world. They are flat, but designed to appear to have depth.
The long and short of all of that was to tell you that I spent about an hour in Hobby Lobby trying to stomach the acoustic guitar versions of old hymns and touching EVERYTHING.
I ended up spending about $60 on all sorts of crap that I plan on gluing to other crap. Then I’m gonna ram it all into my letterpress, ink it up, and smash paper into it.
Behold my supplies!
After I got done touching all of their things, I left Hobby Lobby and started building Sandragraphs.
After dinner and tutoring, I went back to the studio for a little late night printing action.
My first plate proofed thus:
And my second plate proofed like this:
So, naturally, I printed them together. And they turned out beautifully.
I’ve still got a lot to learn about these things, but I foresee good things coming of this.
In other news, I actually managed to listen to some new music yesterday. I know. You’re shocked that I listened to anything other than Harry Potter.
Anywho, I listened to this gem:
It’s pretty fantastic. There’s even a track featuring Run the Jewels. Most of the EP is slower, bump-n-grind kinda jams. Until you get to the last track. Which is a real banger…
And that concludes yesterday.
Today is Thorsday.
See ya’ tomorrow.
More soon. ~SC
