That Moment When You Realize.

Just how few people you know aren’t shapeshifters.

So Scawi Gawi was a sneaky little shit and had a birthday that wasn’t in my calendar. Well, it is now, motherfucker. I’d like to wish her a belated Happy Birthday, but I won’t because it was two days ago and now it’s too late.

Better luck next year.

That was one of many things that I unearthed yesterday.

This too…

I also literally unearthed a lot of rocks with a shovel.

Because I set up my big-ass dresser that I’ve been weather proofing for my bee hives to sit on. I had to level the blocks that it sits on. Which meant shoveling. In rocks. And roots.

I needed/deserved a power-up after that…

Thursday, March 22

I mean, just look at how rugged and gnarly my hands look there.

Them’s workin’ man’s hands.

I had to dig a rock out from under one of my fingernails. It sucked. A lot.

I also finished listening to “Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection” by Alexander C. Kane and started listening to “The Golem and The Jinni” by Helene Wecker.

It was around this point that I started wondering how many books, including audio and comic, that I’ve read/listen to this year. So I tallied it up.

My best guess without really straining myself is 12 audiobooks and 30 comics. And by comics I mean trade paperbacks and graphic novels. I’m not counting single issues or the Sandman omnibus volume one that I haven’t finished reading because I got worn out around 5/8ths of the way through and had to take a break and read something else for a while. But I did count the omnibus of Too Much Coffee Man as one book. I’m sure I left out a bunch of stuff that I would’ve counted. Like whole story arcs or short run comics. Now that I think about it just a little I can add three more just off the top of my head. So 33 comics. That’s 45 books already in 2018. At least.

As a person who has struggled with reading difficulties my whole life, that makes me very happy. Sure, these are “alternatives” to traditional “books”, but fuck you. This is my moment. Let me bask in it.

If you would’ve ever told me that I’d read 45 books in less than 3 months, I would’ve probably not been listening because I was trying to flirt with your sister/daughter/friend. I would’ve tuned you out the second you said the word read. Note the “trying” part.

Ah to be young again.

Just think about all the money I wasted that I could’ve spent on comics.

Think about it.

Wow. That kinda makes me sad.

Moving on.

Just another small note about reading and books before we truly move on to the next subject. I have to take a moment and acknowledge that I never would be where I am as a reader or writer if I hadn’t had the support and encouragement of Marget. She wouldn’t let me cop out of not reading. And I cannot express my gratitude enough.

But today is Friday. Yay or whatever.

I’m planning on working out, working my ass off, and then putting my ass back on by eating a whole pizza.

Or tacos.

Or pizza taco sandwiches.

Tomorrow I may be going to see my Papa. Not sure yet.

I’ll let you know in the morning.

As for now, I’ve got to work for the weekend.

See ya’ tomorrow.

More soon. ~SC
