I Must Be A Tapeworm…

Because I am always listening to books on tape. Or rather digital audio books. More about that in a minute. First off, I just got some awesome news in my inbox this morning.

Andi the Numbers sent me the news that she passed her CPA exam with flying colors. Having still failed to research what a CPA is and why you must take an exam to be one, I don’t really know why it’s exciting, I just know that it is. So, everyone be sure to wish her some congratulations today.

Okay, let’s see, other announcements…nope. Okay, back to being a tapeworm. Last night I returned some books to our local public library (Amy the Amazing is so proud right now) and dug through the audio books for stuff to listen to while I am working. Not that I will ever get tired of listening to all of the David Sedaris books, but I need to switch it up in order to not started mouthing the words along with him like he’s my father reciting the same stories over and over. Anyway, I found a hefty score last night. I picked up an abridged, sadly, copy of My Life in France by Julia Child. I found an autobiography of Gene Wilder called Kiss Me Like a Stranger. I got Wicked (Who doesn’t love Wicked?) by Gregory Maguire. I got a copy of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, a book which I have had sitting on my shelf for ages and have still yet to read, by food guy Michael Pollan. And the last “book” I got I picked strictly based on the title. It’s called I Was Told There’d Be Cake a collection of essays by Sloane Crosley. I’ll let you know how that last one turns out.

Anyway, I’m excited. It is a strange sensation to learn that, as an adult, you really just want to listen to people read to you. I guess it because my parents didn’t really read to us as kids. Maybe, I just like it because it is soothing. Who knows? All I know is that I enjoy it. It gives me a chance to catch up on my “reading”.

Today, Julia Child and I will be painting the doors in Le Duke’s new house. I started working on that yesterday after laying bamboo flooring was a bust. Turns out that you have to lay the flooring between 18°C and 29°C. But before you can lay it at those temperatures, it has to rest for 48 hours lying flat on the floor. Bamboo flooring is silly. Well, since that was a no-go, I started helping out with the painting. I also need to lay a few final tiles today.

Other than that, I don’t have anything exciting to tell you today. So, with that in mind, Ima go to work. Congrats again to Andi the Numbers! More soon. ~SC
