They are all right. It acts sort of like a ball point pen in that it does not start writing immediately. The line is also super fine on the ones I got, because I was so excited to find them that I forgot to look at all of the important normal writing utensil things, like line width. They are totally worth the $4 at WalMart* just for use in crossword puzzles.
