Sleep. It’s What’s For Dinner.

So, I struggled to stay awake until I got pretty close to my normal bedtime and as soon as my head hit the pillow the only letter in my alphabet was Z. Yesterday, in my state of unsleep, I got a lot of stuff done. I probably would have gotten a lot more done, but sleeping neighbors don’t appreciate people mowing the lawn at 5am. Plus, I didn’t want to wake up Pancake Land. So most of my productivity was limited to doing quiet things in my office. After completing all of the things that normally would take me the entire day to do, I was done with everything before 8am, so I had to get creative.
I ended up working out how to make lined (ruled) paper. You know paper with lines on it, for writing. It was an issue that had been bugging me for a while. I’ve been wanting to make my little notebooks to raise money to fund this here website and whatnot, but I couldn’t figure out how to work out lined paper. Sure I could have cut down some crappy school paper and made notebooks, but I am using really great paper for the notebooks, so I needed to figure out a way to print lines. My first instinct was to try and do it using a letterpress. We have tons of brass rule at the shop so, it would only be a matter of laying it out and printing it. Or so I thought. I checked with a few printers and they suggested not doing it on the letterpress because I would spend the rest of my life trying to keep the lines straight and be driven mad in the process. They suggested printing the lines on my inkjet. So, that’s what I did. I measured my paper, created my digital file that size, drew my lines, adjusted their width, and did a lot of proofing. But I finally got it to print pretty close to perfect and then I made a little notebook to see how it would look. It turned out great! It took a photo of it, but it doesn’t do it justice, so I’m not going to show it to you. If you want to see the notebook, swing by Holliday Island and I’ll show it to you.
I’ll tell you about about the snack phone really quickly before I split for work. So, I participate in a lot of online research programs. Most of them pay me in the form of credits that can be redeemed for gift cards, but every great once in a while I’ll be asked to take part in a special survey that pays cash money. Recently, I was asked to participate in a survey about snacks. I fucking L-O-V-E snacks! Anyways, the survey process takes two weeks to complete and during that time I have to carry around what I lovingly call my snack phone. It is a fancy “smart phone” that has been programmed to run only one program. The program that records snacks. Snack phone attack. I’ll let you know how all of this works out. If I remember. Anyways, gotta run to work. More soon. ~SC
