My Cup Runneth Over.

Since I slept in yesterday, I didn’t get to talk about my the things I had made notes about. So I’ll talk about them now. I finished season 6 of Bones. Holy crap! Was it just me or did anybody else really want the T-Rex suit that they built? To celebrate me finishing the season, I made calzones to eat whilst I watched. Calzones are only a better choice than burritos because of their rhyming value. (See yesterday’s post for proof.)
But that is just silly stuff. The really serious thing that I wanted to talk about is “Lucky Peach”. When Teacher Sis and I were running around on Sunday, we went to Le Target at some point. While I was waiting for her to check out, I was eying the magazines near the check out stand when one particular magazine caught my eye. It is called Lucky Peach. And it is their inaugural issue. Words cannot explain the amount of excitement I feel about this magazine. Not only is it this indie, sort of punk rock food magazine, but it also showcases art and quality writing.
FOOD + ART + GOOD WRITING = AWESOME
It doesn’t hurt either that they managed to get Anthony Bourdain to write a piece for it. Or the fact that almost the entire issue is devoted to my beloved Ramen. Or that is contains the transcript of a conversation between Anthony Bourdain, Wylie Dufresne, and Dave Chang where they talk about it means to be mediocre. There is plenty of drink and plenty of cursing ensues.
I cannot encourage you enough, my loyal friends and readers, to buy this magazine. This is coming from the guy who subscribes to photo magazines so that he doesn’t have to read very much. I’m telling you, it’s brilliant. The first issue is still available on news stands, so if you wanted to take my word that it is brilliant and subscribe to it, it is too late to get the first issue via a subscription. Go buy it. Now. They have it at Le Target. The cover looks like this:
Now comes my heart breaking depressing part of the post. I have limited funds so I have to decide between a subscription to Lucky Peach or a Forgeticus t-shirt. It might just be the hardest decision of my life.
Speaking of my life, you may have gathered that I’m in what television shrinks call a “transitional phase”. I call it utter chaos. Pancake Land has, for the most part, moved back in with her mother, Little Peddler. That in and of itself is jarring, but she still comes over for dinner and snuggle time, so it is not so bad. Then there’s the business of Mudpuppy and the fact that we’re no longer doing the wholesale shows thus forcing us to figure out a new way to keep ourselves in business. Then there’s Operation B’s desperate instinctual attempts and failures to be naturally selected against. I’ve started stress cleaning. I figure if the rest of my universe is going to be in shambles, my house should be clean and well-organized. I did the front room last night and I’ll probably do either the bathroom or the kitchen tonight. My office will be last because of the enormity of the task.
As per Prop Ninja’s request, a photo of Quingo for the oncoming photo project Cute Little Baby Cats is in the works.
Also, I had a dream that I came home from work today to find that I had received a broom, a wand, a new supply of parchment, and a new quill and ink set. Just saying.
Screw it, I think I deserve both the t-shirt and the magazine. I’ll get both. More soon. ~SC
