The Search For The Unknown.
1December 4, 2011 by sandwichcontrol
Weirdest thing this morning. I was checking the stats page to see how many of you missed me and I noticed that 2 people had found the site but the search results were unknown. This is very strange. Sorry, it just struck my semi-awake brain as weird. The past 48 hours have been very exhausting. Where to begin…
I guess I’ll start with where I left you Friday morning. I headed off to Lippincottonia to make sure everything was assembled and ready to go. I turned a few student pieces over and took a few pieces out of a kiln. Then I watched some Star Trek to kill an hour before I could go get my rental car. As it turns out, I didn’t get an SUV as I was promised, I got an SUV shaped space ship. After the space ship was acquired, I swung and grabbed Little Miss Cotton and we headed to Lippincottonia to pack this motha’ up. Space ship loaded, we headed to Holliday Island to grab my gear and the snacks. All of this was done ahead of schedule.
So, we fueled up and hit the road. We got to the show in record time, still ahead of schedule, and rocked the set up. After a little creative rethinking, we got everything just so and headed off to Teacher Sis’s hotel for the great nerd adventure. This is when things took a turn for the worst. Actually it was much earlier. Even before we left my house. I had felt a headache coming on early in the day and kept forgetting to take anything. So, by the time we got to the hotel my left eyeball felt like it was going to burst. Pretty much from my left cheekbone to the crown of my head there was a 3 inch wide swath of pulsing, throbbing pain. Awesome. Once we arrived at the hotel, I proceeded to eat an Excedrin Tension and lie down on the bedroom floor for an hour. Then I got up, ate another pill, and lied down for another hour. It was brutal.
This where things get fun. My headache hadn’t exactly gone away, but my entire body felt weird. I was very high on blood thinners. The dizzy, stumbling, silly, kind of high. On Holliday Island, we call it the Crazy Eye. This is what happens when you eat two extra strength tension headache pills on an empty stomach. Once my hands got really cold and clammy and started shaking we headed out for dinner. Zaxxon met us (TS, LMC, and me) at this sushi joint called Meiji and we ate the shit out of some fancy rolls. As I stated every fews minutes after that, until my liver had processed the blood thinners out of my system that is, “I ate a lot of eels.”
I bet you are wondering why I didn’t post any of this while on the trip. I had brought my lappy and everything. But for some unknown reason, I couldn’t get online. LMC could. Bubba Fett could. Countless other teenage nerds could. Not me, though. But I tried. After giving up, I convinced LMC to make paper airplanes with me and throw them from the eighth story of the hotel. Inside the hotel. The hotel was open in the center all the way up so we went as high as we could and let them fly. For a more detailed account of this experience, just go to LMC’s blog (shutter shutter) and read for yourself. It saves me the trouble of typing.
Luckily for me, Teacher Sis had bought me a Batman sleep mask to make me feel better. I put it to good use when I was trying to fall asleep because the kids kept coming and going to events until around 1am. And then all of the sudden it was time to get up and go to work again.
We headed off to the show a little later than we had intended, but it was not too much of a big deal. When we arrived, everybody else who hadn’t set up on Friday was all setup and ready to go. The show turned out wonderfully. There was about 20 vendors in this tiny little space and it was awesome. Very intimate, very cozy. Everybody was shoulder to shoulder and having a blast. We made some good money, some new friends and walked away with plenty of treasure. White Chocolate even made an appearance and kept us company for a few hours. Wanna see my haul? Okay:
Yeah, so I got my Batman sleep mask, an owl calender, some hand salve, 2 rooster prints, 2 porcelain tea bowls, some photo bookmarks, some fucking amazing apple and pepper jelly, the leftover taster jar of the Arkansas wine jelly, and a coptic bound journal. I’m sure I’ve got more than that, but I can’t remember it right now. Overall, kickass show. I will definitely be petitioning Le Duke to do the show again. Maybe by then I’ll have a truck or something so we won’t have to rent a spaceship. You know, keep cost low.
So at some point during the day it started raining. This did not slow the show down at all. It did, however set the tone for the breakdown and drive home. Loading up in the rain sucks. It sucks almost as bad as trying to drive at highway speeds through torrential rain in the fog. I kept trying to get the windshield wipers to go to 11. They would not.
But we made it home safely and unloaded the gear at Lippincottonia. I dropped LMC off at home and came home to strip down to pajamas and eat cheesy hotdogs roll ups. It is good to be home again.
Today, I’ve got a big long post to make. Oh, wait…
Maybe an article write. Some grocery shopping that needs doing. Maybe some laundry. More than likely some Star Trek. That’s it.
And with that, I’m off to get it done. Did you miss me? More soon. ~SC
