Eating The Burrito From Both Ends.
2January 26, 2012 by sandwichcontrol
Forget that burning the candle at both ends business. I think that the phrase “eating the burrito from both ends” is more appropriate. In the midst of all that I’m trying to do right at the studio (making tile, making theater blocks, work on tax stuff, finish rebuilding a kitchen, etc.) I got a call from the folks at Adair Ya needing 25 of the handbuilt tumblers that I make for them. No problem. So I make the tumblers. That was few days ago. Yesterday, they called and wanted to add 15 to the order. No problem. And I started making them.
Then they called back a few hours later.
It turns out that business is booming and they need to order a bunch of the tumblers and a bunch of the larger mugs as well. “How many is a bunch?” I asked. “Around 200 of each.” They said. “And we’ll need them in, say, three weeks.” Holy. Shit. 400 more mugs. That I have to make. In the next 3 weeks. Deep breaths. Don’t panic. I can do this.
So, on top of everything else that I’m trying to accomplish in my life, I can add hand build 400 mugs to the list. And I just thought that I was going to get to have my evenings and weekends off. Well, look on the bright side, I shouldn’t have any trouble sleeping for the next three weeks. Either I won’t have time to sleep or I will be so exhausted that I’ll just lose consciousness immediately after crawling into bed. Silver linings, you know.
Let’s see what my schedule will look like for the next three weeks. In case you guys wanted to hang out with me.

8am-3pm Mugs
3:30pm-4:30pm Tutoring
5pm-8:30pm Food Microbiology

You can pretty much read any question marks as “until I collapse”. And don’t forget that every other week on Thursdays that I’ve got to go to the bank for Jesus first thing in the morning. Today is one of those days. Mugs will have to wait until tomorrow. Today I’m making more tile between Jesus and the letterpress shop. Luckily, Le Duke has got class Thursday nights so I can squeeze homework in on those nights. Whew! I am almost forgot about my classes.
In other news, I’m very handsome and rugged. In case you were unaware.
Well, I’d better get to it before I talk myself into going back to bed. Have a wonderful day. Try not to work too hard. More soon. ~SC
