The House That Cumin Built.
1February 19, 2012 by sandwichcontrol
I’ve been slow cooking chili for 18 hours, so the whole house smells of chili now. Or rather, the whole house smells of cumin which is the smell most people associate with the smell of chili. It’s a pretty delicious smell. I wonder why they haven’t made food scented candles and air fresheners. A chili candle? Roast and potatoes? Thanksgiving turkey? Brilliant. Maybe it’s because it just makes us hungry and we’d be constantly eating if or our houses smelled like pot roast. Hmm…
Yesterday was pretty eventful starting out. I had lunch on assignment with some of my family. Then Teacher Sis, Bubba Fett, and I ran errands. For not really having an agenda as far as things to buy go, I spent a lot of money yesterday. For the most part it was on stuff that I need. Food stuff, pet stuff, freezer bowls, etc. I did treat myself to a giant block of havarti. I also got myself a new tea kettle.
I’ve been wanting to start drinking hot tea again. It is relaxing if nothing else. So, I’ve had my eye out for a new kettle. Yesterday I found one on clearance for half off. Score one for Holliday Island.
In addition to the new kettle, I found some really amazing acrylic paints on clearance. I had to get those. I’ve been attempting to start painting again, so talking myself into buying paint was easy. Now all I have to do is make the time to paint.
I also picked up a drain rack. Of course, I bought one that is too big to sit in the sink. But, since the dishwasher is busted and the new one is in limbo because of some Lippincottonian delays, I figured it was time to stop burning through paper towels and buy a drain rack. In addition to making room on the counter for the crock pot, I had to find the space for this thing as well.
After all of that fun, it was time for a rest. I was going to need my energy if I was going to be the sober guy on a drunk chick podcast. So, I made some tea and chilled out in the hammock oasis for a few hours. Then a few hours turned into several hours. I called Teacher Sis to see what was up and she was waiting on Coach Dolphin to wake up from her nap. Long and short of it, Coach Dolphin extended the nap into a good night’s sleep. I can’t say that I blame her, though. They had gone out on Friday night and then she went to the races all day.
It’s a bit of a bummer to not have another podcast in the bag, but we’ll try again next week. Speaking of podcasts, the new episode of Date Night is up. I was going to save it, but I changed my mind. Enjoy episode seven One For the Money.
Today is a normal Sunday. A little bit of work on an article. A little house cleaning and laundry. A little chili. If only I hadn’t left the Fritos at Teacher Sis’s house. Dammit. Anyways, enjoy the rest of your weekend. More soon. ~SC
