Morning y’all. Yesterday was a busy day. Well, sort of. I did a lot of work in the morning on school and work stuff. Writing articles, working on drafts of newsletters and whatnot. That took up half of my day. The other half was spent preparing my mind for ramen.

Since the day I ate at Skull and Crossbones in Ota, I’ve been thinking about this moment. The moment that I made my own ramen. And the time had come. I’ve had noodles sitting in my cabinet for nearly 3 months waiting for their broth. The stock was ready, I just needed to finish it. But before I could do that, I had to hunt and gather a few key ingredients. So, a shopping trip was in order. I needed dried fish. Bonita or tuna preferably. This is a problem. It turns out that while most of my Asian markets carry a wide variety of various Asian cultures worth of ingredients, they carry similar items from each of the cultures. Like finding French vanilla extract and Mexican vanilla blend. It’s still vanilla.

Apparently, the Japanese use dried Bonita and no other Asian culture does. Or it is a rarely used ingredient. Whatever. Can’t find it. I did find, however, a soup seasoning that has seaweed, another of my missing ingredients, and Bonita flakes. I made due.

So, I assembled my ingredients and finished my stock. And I set a pork roast to, um… roasting. And got eggs boiling. And noodles noodling (not the catfish kind). And like Voltron, these separate mighty ingredients came together to form a mighty dish. Ramen…

Doesn’t that look awesome?! It was pretty friggin’ tasty, too. I did forget to put any soy sauce in the broth, so it needed a bit a of salt, but other than that, it was a helluva start. You know, the start of my ramen empire.

With our ramen dinner, Oxi and I drank peach soda and watched this:

That doesn’t do it justice. It was way more insane than that snippet could ever make it look. Watch it some time. It will hurt your brain.

Okay, so today I’m back to the old meetings and classes routine. Meeting this morning. Class this afternoon. Possibly tutoring after that. Sometimes it is good to have a routine. Sometimes.

I hope your weekend was excellent. Try not to work too hard today. More soon. ~SC
