If This Is Your First Night At Nerd Club. . .

You have to fight. . . Larry Jenkins.
Happy Monday to all you grumpy faces out there. Mine included.
What’s not to like about a Monday that you get to start off by playing, or at least interacting with, Pathfinder? My point, exactly.
Today I have a meeting first thing. After that, it is off to Teacher Sis’s school to work with the nerd club on their character sheets. We will be finishing up their characters. If we have time today, I’ll make them roll initiative. The top 5 will get to experience how combat works by sparring with Larry Jenkins. I’ll try not to kill them. Maybe.
This brings up an interesting thought that I had whilst discussing this nerd club business with Dave. It might be more of an idea than a thought, but whatever. The thought is about the life of a player character. Most people play with their character under the normal circumstances of gameplay. But why do you have to?
I have used Larry Jenkins before in a non-traditional way. Sweetbread was in town months ago and wanted to play with us. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a character rolled up and we were third level. So, I thought, why not have him fight Larry. Larry is a monk, he has a school for monks and other unarmed fighters, why not? This is what Larry would do. Not only does the story work, but Larry is a much higher level creature, so Sweet’s character would gain tons of experience from interacting with him. A quick and easy way to level up. Especially since Sweet wanted to play a fighter in the style of a Luchador. Unarmed fighter? Training with a guy who knows a thing or two about unarmed fighting? Check.
So, that’s where my idea to have the nerd club “train” their characters with Larry Jenkins comes from. They would gain a taste for game play here in the mundane world and they would gain a bit of experience in the real world as well.
But most importantly, this makes Larry more than just a guy in my imagination or on a piece of paper. It makes him a bit more real. Knowing that some silly thing that I made up with my friends is being used to potentially inspire kids to play an RPG and beyond, that’s kinda cool.
And that is how my day starts today. By prepping 16 potential students to die at the hands of Larry Jenkins. Just kidding.
Yesterday was another good day of getting stuff done. Jackie the Mick and I started working on our new podcast. Dave has agreed to draw or paint a cover image for it, as per Furious Jessy’s request. Dave did request a photo to work from. So this happened:
Yeah, the hetero dude chick lit book club. The podcasts has a working title of “Chick Lit”. Mostly because it sounds like Chiclet. And this pleases us.
Okay. I am off to see the wizard.
See ya’ tomorrow.
More soon. ~SC
